For the second challenge of Rise Upon a Prayer, I would like this weeks challenge to focus around being OBEDIENT to God’s voice.  In Christ, we are asked too be obedient, too listen & too trust in his voice.  But sometimes listening can be very difficult to do if your surrounded by loud noises and endless distractions that cause you too loose your focus.  Do your best to avoid these kind of situations?  It’s important to understand that we must obey God with what he is telling us, so that he may bless us with greater things in our lives.  The power is not in what we do, but in how we obey.  Each and every day, God challenges us to pass these little tests in life; that we may rise to become who it is we are meant to be in his eyes.  Open your heart and listen and you will find God’s voice calling you to a take step of faith in a little test that could change not only your life but someone else’s.

Imagine yourself stuck at stoplight & you happen to look over your left shoulder to see a homeless man walking towards you.  Your hoping he passes you by but instead he knocks at your window asking for money & a little something to eat.  Instead of rolling down your window and giving him what you had, you avoid him.  That was a little test.  Did you pass it?  How about the man or woman who cuts you off in traffic?  How did you react?  In every moment of our lives we have an opportunity to do better than we did before.  Follow your heart in doing what is right and let God’s love lead you the rest of the way.

This week, challenge yourself to be a better listener and to obey quickly to what God is asking of you.  God wants to move YOU forward in life, but he needs to know that he can trust you with the little things in life before blessing you with the larger ones.  You are the hands and feet of Jesus on Earth, which means that you have the power of God within you to act out his will and to change this world.  Obey in his voice and I promise you your reward will be greater than you could ever have imagined.

For example, throughout the Bible, we find that God blesses and rewards those who are obedient to him in every area of life.

Genesis 22:18 says, “And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed—all because you have obeyed me.”

Exodus 19:5 says, “Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me.”

In Luke 11:28 Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.”

James 1:22-25 says, “But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it

John 2:3-6, “And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.”

1 Samuel 15:22-23 says, “What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the command of the LORD, he has rejected you as king.”
